Hello, I’m Erzsebet
The first thing people ask me is where my name comes from and how to say it. Erzsebet is a Hungarian name. It is pronounced by non-native speakers as AIR-za-bet.
Who I Am (Chaotic Version)
I write novels about smart women doing science in eerie locations. I do not have a hometown. I’ve lived in a haunted house. I like reusing things. The only social media accounts associated with me are inactive zombies. I enjoy autumn. My favorite number is 22. I have misgivings about the human species. I hope the two turtle eggs I rescued from a possum hatch. I am not spontaneous. I love long naps, cold beer, and cold beer followed by long naps. Unlike Merkatnip, I never thought he said tennis. This list is not exhaustive.
Who I Am (LinkedIn-Ish Version)
I am an author. I hold degrees in physics and philosophy. I have over twenty years of experience as a software engineer at companies ranging from global powerhouses to scrappy startups. I live in Virginia with my husband and a pack of wild dogs. Authors that inspire me include Shirley Jackson, Samuel R. Delany and Stanislaw Lem.

What I Write
I write Gothic science fiction novels. My novels are the antithesis of “cozy.” More bitter than sweet, my novels aren’t for everyone. However, if you enjoy suspense, realistic science, unhappy endings and don’t mind mixing all that with supernatural elements, my books won’t disappoint.
Why I Write
As an author, my focus is on examining what it means to be a woman in a culture where technology outpaces ethics. I do not believe there is “bad” science or “evil” technology. I do believe that both have sociological, psychological, and physical impacts, for good or ill: it is the human application and intent that determines the impact of any discovery or invention.
Nothing I publish is AI generated.
Who I Write For
I write for the yet-unborn who will find my novels long after I’ve died. I write for women who love science and math. I write for anyone who prefers the gloaming to the bright noonday.
Where You Can Find My Novels
My novels are not on sale – yet. They will be exclusively available on gothicscifibooks.shop in 2026. I’ll update here when I have a mailing list set up for you to subscribe to be alerted to the grand opening.
